  • Engineering Machine Design Contest (EMDC) Milwaukee Regional Competition
    Starts: 8:00 am
    Ends: March 13, 2026 - 12:00 pm

Location: Discovery World, 500 N Harbor Dr, Milwaukee, WI 53202, USA

    Description:

Hosted by STEM Forward, the Engineering Machine Design Contest (EMDC) is an opportunity for teams of 3 to 12 high school students to design and build a complex machine using everyday objects with the guidance of a coach. The completed machine will use multiple steps to complete a simple task. Teams showcase and exhibit their machine at a regional contest with the opportunity to advance to the Engineering Machine Design Championship. Teams are scored on a Team Journal, Team Presentation, and Machine Design and Operation.

Each year, a competition theme is chosen to guide the machine build, allowing whimsical creativity to flourish. The theme for 2026 is Engineering Across Eras: Innovating Industrial Engineering Through Time.

  • Contrapt Wisconsin - Waukesha
    Starts: 8:00 am
    Ends: April 24, 2026 - 1:00 pm

Location: WCTC Main Campus (Waukesha County Technical College), 800 Main St, Pewaukee, WI 53072, USA

A contraption accomplishes a simple task in the most complicated, fun way possible. Building one can be challenging, but it allows students to work on skills involving engineering, simple machines, trial and error, project planning, physics, teamwork, and creativity. The competition enables students to showcase their talents to their peers and our judges, with the chance to earn awards.

If you are interested in judging, please contact Theresa Wolf at twolf@stemforward.org.
