What you’ll do:

  • Produce contract documents conforming to applicable building codes with guidance and supervision.
  • Basic design and layout of structural engineering drawings for assigned projects including the preparation of plans, schedules and details.
  • Prepare structural calculations.
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with project team of designers and engineers to follow through with tasks and recommend solutions for completing design tasks.
  • Visit job sites to verify existing conditions.

Who you are:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering.
  • 5-7 years’ experience in structural design.
  • PE preferred, or EIT and working towards professional engineering license.
  • Proficient with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiar with building codes, zoning regulations and approval process.Must be comfortable working independently and also in a team-oriented environment, with multiple projects and varied deadlines.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to draft correspondence, reports and communicate effectively with project team members.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering
  • At least 1 to 2 years of experience in land development design and civil engineering with experience in site development, grading, drainage, storm water management design and permitting
  • Experience in water distribution and sewer collection systems design, parking lots and roads, erosion and sediment control, from initial project planning through construction phase is preferred.

Project Engineer: Manages the technical site design using Civil 3D and permitting process for projects and planning. Serve as a second point of contact for clients and guide the work of Civil Engineers and Technicians.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Experience is needed in the areas of hydrology, site and paving plans, erosion control and grading plans, and wet utility design/plan preparation including water main, sanitary sewer and storm sewer for both public and private systems.
  • Prepare permit applications and submittals and researching potential development sites.
  • Maintain project compliance with state and local codes, laws ordinances and agency requirements.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, P.E. license (and willingness to obtain licensure in multiple states)
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in land development design and civil engineering.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D software and hydrology and hydraulic software is needed.

Water Utility Superintendent, Port Washington, WI (12,353). The City seeks a Water Utility Superintendent.

The new Superintendent can expect to:

  • Operations of four MGD surface water filtration plants, three elevated storage tanks, 68+ mile distribution system, over 5,000 metered customers.
  • Supervises four plant operators and five employees who perform maintenance duties at the plant, pump stations, towers, and distribution system.
  • Helps prepare and manage operating and capital budgets ($3.2 million, plus capital spending).
  • Work with Street Commissioner and Wastewater Superintendent, reports to Director of Public Works
  • Lead the water utility as it undertakes in 2023 a $17 million plant improvement project adding UV treatment, emergency power supply and with other electrical upgrades
  • Guide the Water Utility toward compliance with upcoming lead abatement requirements within the distribution system including lead service pipe replacement
  • Take on full conversion to an automated radio read system of water meters
  • Undertake annually one mile of water-main replacements
  • Meet the high standards of service quality that the utility’s customers have come to enjoy assuring that the organization’s culture is focused on responsiveness to the community; and
  • Examine staffing levels, workforce deployment and retention issues, and succession planning needs

Qualified candidate will:

  • Associate’s degree; Bachelor’s degree in water science, business, public administration, or civil engineering is a plus.
  • Four (4) plus years of progressively responsible positions in municipal public works, utilities or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities, including supervisory experience.

Village of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin (7,303). The Village seeks a skilled professional to direct and manage the Village’s Public Works Department, including water and sewer utilities. This newly created position will be important addition to the Village’s management team, working cooperatively with the Director of Public Works/Deputy Village Administrator. The Deputy Director of Public Works & Utilities is responsible for directing and administering the activities of the Public Works Department. This position involves planning and coordinating the programs and services of the department. The Deputy Director will be responsible for the supervision of all Public Works & Utilities staff, currently comprised of seven FTEs plus two seasonal employees, including one utility clerk, one foreman, four public works technicians and one utility operations technician. Cottage Grove utilities consist of three community wells, 37 miles each of separate water and sewer mains, and four lift stations; it serves approximately 2,500 residential and commercial customers.

Qualified candidates should have:

The City of Moline, IL (population 42,985) is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the Engineering Department’s 16-member professional staff and direct the design and construction of major municipal infrastructure and facility projects.

The City of Moline is in Rock Island County, Illinois, and makes up part of the “Quad Cities” along with East Moline, Rock Island, Bettendorf, and Davenport. Chicago is 175 miles to the east of Moline and Des Moines is 160 miles to the west. Infrastructure, ranked as a priority by residents in the City’s 2022-2024 strategic plan, encompasses water, sewer, street, sidewalk, and transportation projects that will be a primary focus for the Director of Engineering.

The Director of Engineering oversees an annual operating budget of $1.7 million and an average annual capital budget of $17.2 million. As a department head, this position serves as a member of the City’s management team and works in in collaboration with other City departments and government entities to address engineering design needs and ensure the safety of public infrastructure. The Director of Engineering has the discretion to augment the City’s engineering staff by drawing on needed talent from an approved pool of consulting engineering firms.

The salary range for this position is $110,455 – $154,637. The anticipated starting salary is $132,546 +/- DOQ/E. The City provides health insurance benefits and participates in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund, which includes pension, short-term disability, and permanent disability programs.

The Director of Engineering position requires a bachelor’s degree and seven years progressively responsible experience in civil engineering, including at least three years of supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. The successful candidate must be licensed as a professional engineer (PE) in the State of Illinois or able to obtain such licensure in a reasonable period of time.
